The California Conservatory of Dance – Student Division

Ballet 1 (Beginning Ballet, Ages 8+) 
We continue strengthening the basics of the ABT Curriculum and cultivate new steps as well as new Terminology. two classes will be offered each week. + one Jazz

Recommended frequency: Twice per week (three classes will be offered)

Modern 1 (Beginning Modern, Ages 8+)
Develops the dancer’s awareness of space, force, and shape. Classes include center exercises, loco-motor combinations, and guided improvisation.

Recommended frequency: Once per week

Ballet 2 (Beginning /Intermediate Ballet, Ages 9+)
We continue strengthening the basics using the ABT curriculum and cultivate new steps as well as new Terminology.

Recommended frequency: Three times per week + one Modern

Modern 2 (Beginning /Intermediate Modern, Ages 9+)
Develops the dancer’s awareness of space, force, and shape. Classes include center exercises, loco-motor combinations, and guided improvisation.

Ballet 3 (Intermediate Ballet, Ages 10+)
We continue strengthening the basics using the ABT curriculum and cultivate new steps as well as introduce  Pre-Pointe & Pointe (to be enrolled in Pointe you must take a minimum of 3 ballet technique classes per week) + one Modern

Recommended frequency: Three/four times per week

Modern 3 (Intermediate Modern, Ages 10+)
Continues the training started in Modern 2. Introduces concepts such as the use of gravity, spinal articulation, weight shifting and momentum. Classes include center exercises, loco-motor combinations and guided improvisation.

Ballet 4 (Intermediate Ballet, Ages 11+)
We continue strengthening the basics using the ABT curriculum and cultivate new steps as well as strengthen the dancers Pointe work (to be enrolled in Pointe you must take a minimum of 3 ballet technique classes per week) + two Modern  + one Comp

Recommended frequency: Four times per week

Modern 4 (Intermediate Modern Ages 11+)
Continues the training started in Modern 3. Introduces floor work and develops the strength needed to begin inversions.  The curriculum also focuses on increased torso mobility. Classes include center exercises, loco-motor combinations, and guided improvisation.

Ballet 5 (Intermediate Ballet, Ages 12+)
We continue strengthening the basics using the ABT curriculum and cultivate new steps as well as introduce Pre-Pointe & Pointe (to be enrolled in Pointe you must take a minimum of 3 ballet technique classes per week) + one hour Pointe + two Modern + one Variation

Modern 5 (Intermediate Modern, Ages 12+)
Continues the training started in Modern 4.  Introduces more complex combinations that develop coordination and sequencing. There is an Increased focus on upper body strength and athleticism as well as artistic expression. Classes include center exercises, loco-motor combinations and longer center combinations.

Ballet 6 (Intermediate Ballet, Ages 14+)
We continue strengthening the basics using the ABT curriculum and cultivate new steps as well as introduce Pre-Pointe & Pointe (to be enrolled in Pointe you must take a minimum of 3 ballet technique classes per week) + one hour Pointe + two Modern + one Variation

Modern 6 (Intermediate Modern Ages 15+) 
Continues the training started in Modern 5.  Classes focus on traveling through space, developing off-center movement and the combination of classical ballet vocabulary with varied torso positions. Classes include center exercises, loco-motor combination’s and longer center combination’s designed to challenge the dancer’s performance ability. Classes focus on combining all of the concepts introduced in  Modern Levels 1-5 with increased speed, dynamic range, fluidity, and agility. Increased proficiency in improvisation and an ability to adapt to various modern styles is addressed.
