Teresa Avina

Ms. Avina originally from Salinas California, has been a student of dance since age four. Ms. Avina began her professional dance and teaching career in Southern California fifteen years ago. Before completing her Bachelor’s degree in Dance at the University of California, Irvine. Ms. Avina performed with Jazz Spectrum Dance Company, where she performed at the Jazz Dance World Congress in Arizona and Chicago. Ms. Avina has performed at numerous premier venues throughout LA and Orange County including The Performing Arts Center, the Irvine Barclay Theatre, the Martha B. Knoebel Dance Theater, the House of Blues and The Walt Disney Concert Hall. In addition, Ms. Avina spent two years, including the inaugural year, as a principal company member for BARE Dance Company. As an undergraduate, Ms. Avina had the opportunity to work with legendary choreographer Donald McKayle and the UCI Etude Ensemble were she performed in venues across California and in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Her teaching experience includes Jimmie DeFore Dance Center, JSerra Conservatory for the Arts, Laguna Beach High School, Orange Coast College and the University of California, Irvine. While completing her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance at the University of California, Irvine, Ms. Avina was fortunate to work a second time with Mr. McKayle as the rehearsal director to his Etude Ensemble. Ms.Avina is an experienced and innovative teacher in the areas of jazz, modern and contemporary dance. Ms. Avina’s choreographic work has been featured at the University of California Irvine’s Graduate and Thesis Concerts, UC Irvine’s Insight Jazz Ensemble, Laguna Beach High School, Jimmie DeFore’s Pulse Concert, the Academy for the Performing Arts (APA), Jazz Spectrum Dance Company, Chapman University and Orange Coast College faculty concerts. Ms. Avina has also choreographed competitive works for various high schools and colleges around Los Angeles and Orange County. Currently, Ms. Avina teaches jazz at Orange Coast College and is the guest choreographer for the fall term at Irvine Valley College. She is also enjoying her work for the Laguna Dance Festival as Operations Manager, working closely with Artistic Director and founder, Jodie Gates.


Taryn Chavez

Taryn Chavez is classically versed in ballet, jazz, lyrical, rhythm tap, musical theater, and gymnastics. Her versatility helped Chavez throughout her competitive dancing years. In 2003, Chavez was awarded a perfect score at the International Dance Challenge. At thirteen, Chavez was chosen by Debbie Allen to perform in Allen’s West Coast Version of Pepito’s Story, which was featured at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. In 2006, Chavez was awarded a scholarship for her work in choreography and performance at Orange Coast College. In addition, Chavez has also danced with Rhapsody in Taps Company, under the direction of Bob Carroll and Linda Sohl-Ellision. Chavez is currently the artistic director for Orange County Dance and Theater Arts, as well as a guest teacher at California State University, Long Beach.

Helen Clarke

Helen Clarke has been teaching ballet and tap throughout Orange County since 1964. Her promising dancers have gone on to dance professionally with Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Met, and Houston Ballet.



Bobby Hatanaka

Bobby Hatanaka’s training in hip-hop began at Millennium Dance Complex where he worked with Tabitha, Napoleon, and Marty Kudela. Since then he has trained at the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio and with Team Boogiezone with whom he has performed as the principal dancer. He has completed intensives with both Boogiezone and Monsters of Hip Hop. His performances include Maxt Out, Body Rock, Ultimate Brawl, World of Dance, and Boogiezone in Japan Showcase.
